The personal and working lives of ESP can often interact with each other, with personal problems reducing resilience and creating difficulties with partners (Hall, Dollared, Tuckey, Winefield, & Thompson, 2010). The screening identified that many of the ESP were coping with a range of difficulties in their personal lives that contributed to their high level of clinical scores. In Figure 15.4 the rates of different personal problems are reported. These included ESP exposure to relationship problems, often marital breakdown or traumatic bereavements, rape—in some cases this was by a colleague, which added to their distress—and problems with alcohol.
